What does it mean to be faithful?
The everyday meaning of being faithful means that something or someone is steadfast or loyal, but in the Bible we see God’s faithfulness has a much richer meaning to it.
At the heart of Biblical faithfulness, the truth is that God keeps His promises and that God’s love and mercy is steadfast and unwavering for us.
God keeps His promises and that God’s love and mercy is steadfast and unwavering for us.
There are countless examples of God keeping His promises and of God’s unchanging love and mercy for us. I don’t know about you, but I am so grateful that we can trust that God does keep His promises and He does show us unending love and mercy.

What Bible examples illustrate God’s faithfulness?
I personally am reading through the entire Bible this year (*if you need a Bible, this Beautiful Word Bible is my favorite!), and in addition to the 25 Bible verses on the faithfulness of God that you can see above, I am seeing how much the Word of God is filled with illustrations of God’s faithfulness. You can find a few of the many examples of God faithfulness below:
Abraham
In Genesis 17:4-5, God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations. Even though Sarah and Abraham were old in age and were unable to conceive, God blessed them with Isaac which began the lineage of the Israelites.
The Israelites
In Exodus, the Israelites were forced into slavery by the Egyptians, and God heard their cries in Exodus 2:24. God called Moses to lead the people out of Egypt, and He promised Moses that “I will be with you…(Ex. 2:12a).” As you read the story about the Israelites leaving Egypt and wandering around the wilderness, you see God protect them from their enemies and His presence being with them (Exodus 14:19-28, Numbers 22-24 just to name a few). At the end of Joshua 21:45, you read that “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”
At the end of Joshua 21:45, you read that “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”
Rehab
In Joshua 2, we begin reading the story of Rehab the prostitute. She was not an Israelite, but she had a fear of the Lord. As the Israelite spies came into Jericho to scout out the land, she protected them and hid them from the leaders of the city. The two spies promised her that she and her family would be protected when the city fell as long as she kept her promise to continue to protect them. She kept her promise, and as God was destroying Jericho, God showed his faithfulness by not demolishing Rehab’s home and family.
Gideon
In Judges 6, you can read the story of Gideon. God called him to fight the Midianites on behalf of the Israelites. In verse 23, the Word says, “But the Lord said to him, ‘Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.’” As God promised, Gideon did not die during battle because God’s hand was upon him.
There are so many more incredible Bible stories where God’s faithfulness is shown through keeping His promises. I encourage you to read through your Bible to find them all!
What is the unending faithfulness of God?
The word unending implies that it has no end. It goes on for infinity. The beautiful truth that God’s faithfulness goes on forever and that it has no ending is true. We can trust that God’s Word is true when it says in Psalm 100:5, “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

A beautifully worded explanation of the unending faithfulness of God is this:
“God’s unfailing love and faithfulness are central attributes of His divine nature, consistently revealed throughout the Scriptures. These attributes underscore God’s steadfast commitment to His creation and His covenant people. God’s love is described as “unfailing” because it is constant, enduring, and not subject to change or failure. His faithfulness is His unwavering reliability and trustworthiness in fulfilling His promises and maintaining His covenant. 2”

How can I be faithful to God in my everyday life?
I think the question of “How can I be faithful to God in my everyday life?” is one that many Christians have. First and foremost, I want to encourage you to continue growing in your walk with the Lord. You continue to grow in your walk with the Lord by
- Reading and reflecting on God’s Word everyday
- Allowing God to transform your heart, mind and soul through prayer
- Being involved in a body of believers
- Committing to living a life that is pleasing to the Lord
- Remain in Him always
When you are committed to growing in your relationship with the Lord through the above steps, you will grow in your faithfulness to and love for God naturally.
There are two Bible verses that come to mind when I think of how I can be faithful to God in my everyday life. They are:
Joshua 22:5: “But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
In this verse, Joshua is encouraging the Israelites to remain faithful to God as they live in the Promise land.
If you truly follow these two commands, you will naturally grow in your faithfulness to God.
