As a Christian parent, one of the most important things that you can do is to pray over your children. Praying is an opportunity as a parent to communicate directly with the Creator of your son. We often hear people say that they are blessed, but we do not often hear people blessing others unless they have just sneezed. A blessing is “special words spoken to people, reminding them of their connection to God and their purpose.” 1 Blessings can be scripture read over your son or words of truth spoken over them.
It seems really fitting to bless your son on his birthday because it gives you a moment to remind him of who he is to God and of the mission God has given him to do.
We use blessings several times a week in my house, but we give blessings especially on birthdays. Here are some great blessings to give to your son on his special birthday. Some are words of truth and some of scripture verses to read over them.

Dear Heavenly Father. We thank you for the joyous birth of our son and for this past year of his life. We praise you for all of the “firsts” that were experienced this year, and all of the ways that You revealed Your goodness to us through our son. On his first birthday, we ask that You continue to grow our boy into a strong and healthy child. We pray that he would come to know You at a young age and that our son’s life would be a witness to Your loving faithfulness. We ask that as he grows that You would give us wisdom to parent him and that we would always remember to point him to You, oh Lord. Thank you so much for his life and I pray that you would bless his special day. Amen.

Almighty Lord, I praise You for another year of life for my son. He lights up my heart, and I am so grateful to be his mother.
